Presbyterian Medical Services (PMS) is excited to welcome Candice Hewitt, Physician Assistant, to PMS – Santa Fe Community Guidance Center as a provider of primary health care services to pediatric and adult patients.
Hewitt completed an M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies at University of New Mexico, an M.S. in Human Nutrition at University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, and a B.S. in Biology & Ecology at Northern Michigan University.
Prior to completing her degree in Physician Assistant Studies, Hewitt was Program Manager for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program run by the State of New Mexico. She has also held positions as a private Nutrition Consultant and a Diabetes Case Manager.
Asked why she entered the physician assistant program, Hewitt replied, “It’s really rewarding for me to connect with other people. I enjoy this in combination with applying concepts of evidence-based medicine. I’m especially interested in empowering people to take care of themselves through healthy lifestyle choices including nutrition, physical activity and stress management.”
“I joined PMS because their mission matched my personal interests of serving the underserved population. It’s wonderful to help people who would otherwise not receive services and who do not always have the means to help themselves.”
Hewitt is the proud mother of a son, Nicholas. In her spare time she loves to backpack, mountain bike, and go cross country skiing.
